Tasting Note: Matawhero’s 2021 Irwin Chardonnay is a flagship wine crafted from 100% Mendoza Chardonnay from Gisborne’s Golden Slopes. It opens with ripe peach and melon aromas, layered with toasty oak. The rich, creamy palate offers balanced acidity and a long, harmonious finish. Wild fermentation, full malolactic, and nine months sur lie ageing in American and European oak (30% new) enhance its complexity. This elegant Chardonnay has excellent cellaring potential for 5–10 years.
